“It is both possible and necessary to move beyond a world with police.”
That is simply one small sentiment expressed by the organizers of the Los Angeles Youth Activist Camp. The week-long event will be focused on children and is “free for all Black youth, ages 10-18.” Take a moment to imagine the fallout if this was a “White youth” camp.
According to the registration form, “In addition to learning strategies for organizing social justice campaigns and direct action tactics, the camp will focus on community building, skill-sharing, critical literacy, public speaking, as well as techniques for developing healthy collective and self-care practices.” In an interesting side note, the camp has either already been filled or the leaders have decided to close it since the is no longer available online.
Dr. Anthony Ratcliff is one of the main organizers. He was hired in 2015 by-LA leader Melina Abdullah to work at California State University. He often refers to her as his “comrade.” He is also the-LA’s Education Coordinator. He has advertised the camp with a throwback photo of two children attending a Black Panther Party even.

Ratcliff was the director of another youth event where Abdullah’s daughter, then 12-years-old led the discussion where a young boy stated, “Whenever I see a cop car when I’m leaving home for practice, I actually get mad. I should actually feel protected whenever I see a . Instead, I feel unprotected.”
We can only assume that these types of lessons will be taught at the camp in LA this summer. After learning that, it is no wonder that consistently disregard police orders, often ending in tragedy.
While we haven’t heard much from lately, it appears as if they are quietly gathering strength and preparing for the next phase in their destructive and deadly movement.
