The tough-hitting campaign promises made by President Trump were often not popular with the liberal voices of mainstream media. They were not happy about his plans to fix the overuse and overreach of many key governmental agencies. They were also not in agreement with his swift actions to turn around some of the failures of the Obama administration.
With their unhappiness already established, it makes sense that they would downplay and even hide the amazing. They refused to focus on the overall good for the general public, instead hyping the emotional stories of small numbers of people who were negatively impacted.
For example, there seems to be an endless supply of deportation stories without any consideration for the expanded protections of the United States border. The center of many of these stories are adults who have a long history of criminal activity like the on-going use of fake documents.
Some of the stories even discuss adults who were at one time covered by DACA. In all, DACA is designed to offer short-term protections to the 752,154 immigrants who have been approved. A part of that approval process was participants’ on-going compliance. There are roughly
DACA has become a touchy subject for many, including President Trump. His efforts to deport undocumented workers and those with on-going criminal activities can directly impact some of the DACA users. According to, “…it’s one of the most difficult subjects I have because you have these incredible kids, in many cases, not in all cases. And some of the cases, having DACA and they’re gang members and they’re drug dealers, too. But you have some absolutely, incredible kids, I would say mostly. They were brought here in such a way — it’s a very — it’s a very, very tough subject.”
The current focus on change is terrifying to the MSM. President Trump is prepared to alter the way the United States sees the boundaries of the federal government. Trump intends to “...” In a recent address to state governors, he promised a government that is “lean and accountable to the people.”
It seems that accountability is the scariest part of Trump’s message. After years of relaxed immigration policies, Trump has pledged increased efforts to address illegal immigration. This means giving agencies like the Department of Homeland Security increased funding. The years of neglect and on-going battle to get even basic supplies like service weapons should be a thing of the past.
After a little over a month in office, Trump’s focus on slowing crossings at the border is making significant progress. Reports from the south showed adrop of illegal crossing between January and February of 2017. While a seasonal drop of 10% would have been expected, the much larger change points to the efforts of Trump.
Putting “America First” goes well beyond increased security at the border. It also means tightening spending outside of the country while problems within our nation are dealt with. Changes in the works include scaling back the spending of the State Department and many programs that offer financial supports to foreign countries. With our borders at risk, it just makes sense.
The environment and the EPA have also been a focus as we look at departments facing cutbacks. Many have been quick to point out that this means the Trump simply does not care about the environment. This is not true. A government office does not become untouchable because they are working for the environment. Regardless of the subject they study, it is possible for the department to overspend.
Excessive expenditures seem to the enemy of the new administration. They are focused on taking the federal government out of areas it does not need to be involved in. The cuts at the EPA and supporting the development of the pipelines may seem like unpopular issues to support, but this is good business.
Removing the overreach of the government also comes to center stage in the on-going conversations surrounding transgender rights and protections. This was originally handled on the state level. During the Obama administration, it became a federal issue. Bathroom bills and protecting the rights of trans students was something Obama did not trust states to handle.
President Trump simply trusts each state to handle the issues of transgender rights as they come up. This does not mean he is against any group of Americans. Instead, the focus of the federal government is to protect and secure the overall population and let states deal with issues with smaller groups. With 50.1 million school age students in the US and approximately, it does not make economic sense for the federal government to take on their management.
With such dramatic changes, it is no wonder that the mainstream media is baffled. President Trump is doing as promised and they can’t fidure out how to handle that.
