Doctors bowed to an 11-year-old after he did one thing that changed the lives of many people.

The patient was Liang Yaoyi, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was just 9 years old after he felt dizzy one night before bed and had trouble walking the next day, the Shanghai Daily reported.

Liang had told his mother, Li Qun, that he wanted to donate his organs in order to be a “great child,” Shanghai Daily reported.

“I have seen many people doing good deeds and I think they are great. I want to be a great child too,” he reportedly told his mother.

After Liang was first diagnosed, he told his mother that he wanted to be a doctor when he grew up. But as his condition worsened, he realized that he might live that long.  He then told his mother that his final wish was that his organs be donated. Liang’s sister, Lijun, told Shanghai Daily that by donating, the boy was able to live on in another way.

Liang Yaoyi’s willingness to help others even after his death caused the doctors to pause in reverence to thank the boy for his decision.

Liang, from Shenzhen in China’s southern province of Guangdong, died in June 2014.

But it is a story that lives on because of a photo.

A photograph of the moment when doctors bowed went viral and still touches people today. The U.K. Mirror reported that Liang’s mother is the woman weeping in the photo.
