In a moment of horrifying loss, a young woman found that even though the house she had been living in burned down, one miraculous thing was left — her Bible.

According to WTLV-TV, the fire happened in the Glynn County, Florida town of Brunswick last Friday.

A young woman named Rachel was living with her aunt and uncle, Carol and Phil Reese, while she went to college. A friend named Stephanie Levy said Rachel’s aunt had woken up to a loud noise and when she checked it out, she discovered a fire on the back porch.

The family was able to get everyone out safely, but it sadly was a “total loss,” KSDK reported. A dog, two cats and a kitten were also lost in the tragic fire.

You would think that this would mean that there was nothing left. And while most everything was gone, one thing was still there — Rachel’s Bible, which her mother had given her after she had graduated high school.

“The firefighter recovered it,” Levy told reporters. “It was in her room. He showed it to her. She was amazed by that … She was very moved by that.”

“She told me she feels that it was a way for God to get a message out from her to other people; to touch other people that she is hoping she could do that.”

The rubble and the rescued Bible.

This isn’t the first incident like this, either. In South Carolina back in 2016, a similar case involved a Bible being retrieved from a horrific car fire that consumed everything else. In Mississippi earlier this year, a Bible survived a tornado.

Is it divine intervention? One theory is that this is God appearing in times of great hardship, reminding us that his hand is sovereign even though we may be going through a difficult trial.

After the fire, Rachel apparently sent Levy her favorite Bible passage, from Job 1:21-22 — “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”

If that’s the case, God definitely seems to have made His desired impact.
