RWC News Meet The Millennial Using Trump’s Same Stance To Make History In The Senate

Lena Epstein follows Trump’s stance to potentially become the youngest female to join the Senate.

Michigan proved to be a powerful populist stronghold in 2016, supporting Bernie Sanders and in the primaries, but then going for President Trump during the general election.

Throughout the election period, Lena Epstein was there the entire time as Trump’s Michigan State co-chair. She now plans to revive the same excitement that won Trump his presidency with her own campaign for the state’s U.S. Senate seat in 2018.

Similar to Trump, Epstein’s campaign is focused on the forgotten man. Some key issues of hers greatly resemble Trump’s stances such as immigration, the economy, national security, and ensuring that the United States has the “right trading partners and right trade deals.”

Those aren’t the only similarities either. Epstein also shares a business background with Trump. She graduated Harvard University and is the co-owner of Southfield, Michigan-based Vesco Oil Corporation, which has over 200 employees and an annual revenue exceeding $175 million.

Epstein has already made multiple appearances on Fox, specifically in support of Trump’s decisions as president.

Epstein isn’t just trying to mimic Trump though; the 35-year-old soon-to-be mother has a very specific agenda. Epstein wants to spur economic growth in a way that helps the millennial generation, which includes tax cuts as well as a one-time five percent tax, instead of 35 percent, to entice U.S. companies to bring money from overseas back into the country and create more domestic jobs.

Like most in the millennial generation, Epstein isn’t focused on partisanship, but instead, she is hoping her campaign reaches out to all people, which includes those who don’t usually vote Republican.

“This election, this campaign is less than a D vs. R issue,” Epstein said. “This is going to be the American people’s campaign, regardless of party or past voting history. People want a change, they voted for a change in November, and Sen. Stabenow has been in office for over 40 years. Respectfully, it’s time for new leadership.”

Epstein will be running against Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat who is expected to seek a fourth term and who easily made it through re-election in 2006 and 2012. Stabenow has been a Senator for nearly two decades. She’s been a harsh critic of President Trump and has been against Trump’s proposed cut in Great Lakes funding, the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, and more. She has agreed with Trump on the idea that the North American Free Trade Agreement – which Trump plans to renegotiate – is “long overdue” for modernization.

Sen. Stabenow has maintained her position in Congress for nearly 20 years with no one being able to successfully oppose her.

Epstein isn’t the only one shaking things up. With the 2016 election, it has clearly been shown that more states are going red after witnessing the country take a beating from the previous administration. It is highly likely that more Democratic seats will be lost in 2018.

To make matters worse for them, they are defending seats in highly red states on top of running in a wide variety of swing states, such as Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

History shows that when a party is in a situation like this, they often lose seats. Back in 2014, Democrats defended several seats in majority Republican states. They had to defend Louisiana, Alaska, Montana, West Virginia, and Arkansas while also dealing with swing states Virginia and North Carolina. Republicans took all of those seats except for Virginia.

As this map shows, Democrats will be on the defensive in 2018.

Things are far from simple with the current political climate though. The mainstream media is constantly assailing anything Trump has done and exaggerating the slightest actions from his administration.

But what some would consider a negative is actually strengthening Trump’s position as many Americans no longer have trust in the media’s ability to accurately report the truth.

On top of this, the Democratic Party is in shambles after suffering devastating losses in the 2016 election. They’ve grown divided on several hot topic issues, such as abortion.

It’s still far too difficult and soon to even remotely accurately predict what the results of the 2018 election will be. There are so many unknown factors involved and the political climate is still changing greatly.

President is tasked with the job of bringing this nation back together, but he has to do it while facing opposition every step of the way. If she is following in his footsteps, Lena Epstein will have a difficult road ahead of her as she tries to enter into the world of politics as an outsider.

But, if the result of last year’s election has taught us anything, it is that the American people are tired of the same old politicians and are eagerly looking for someone to make real changes in the country.
