Premier League table 2022/23: Updated standings

Manchester City defused a Leeds United comeback attempt and emerged with a 2-1 win on Saturday to take their lead to four points ahead of Arsenal's match on Sunday.

The Gunners travel to third-place Newcastle and hope they can cut the lead back down to one point, though City would have a game in hand at that point.

In the top-four chase, Tottenham have fallen behind the pack, but Brighton will be holding out hope for a miracle run at a European spot given their games in hand. Liverpool are now just one point behind Man United for the fourth and final Champions League berth, but United have two games in hand.

Southampton's poor run of games means they are stuck at the bottom and hurtling towards the drop. Saints can drag Nottingham Forest down with them on Monday when they travel to face Forest at the City Ground.

Below is the full Premier League table followed by a snapshot of each race.

Premier League title race

Man City have their largest lead of the season atop the Premier League after beating Leeds United at home on Saturday.

Arsenal can cut the lead back down to just one point if they can win at Newcastle on Sunday, which will be a tall order. Man City also have a game in hand, which could take their lead to seven points with just a handful of matches remaining.

Champions League places, European places

The top four in the table automatically qualify to next season's Champions League group stage. Fifth place, along with the FA Cup winner, qualify directly to the Europa League group stage

With Manchester United winning the Carabao Cup and also on track to finish in the top four, that means the Conference League qualifying spot that is awarded to the Carabao winners will be passed on to the 6th-place team in the Premier League table (for now).

If Man City or Man United win the FA Cup and also finish in the top four, then the Europa League group stage spot that comes with winning that trophy would go to 6th place, while the Conference League qualifying spot gets bumped down to the 7th place team.

European places as of Saturday, May 6:

  • Champions League berths (4): Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Man United
  • Europa League berths (2): Liverpool, FA Cup winner
  • Conference League qualifying berth (1): Tottenham

Premier League relegation

It's increasingly looking like the bottom seven teams will be the ones battling to avoid relegation with three or four matches remaining for most teams.

With last-place Southampton needing a miracle at this point, all eyes will be on the four teams directly above them who are within a point of each other. Everton (at Brighton) and Nottingham Forest (vs. Southampton) have an opportunity to extract themselves from the bottom three on Monday.
