Arsenal will be fighting to keep their Premier League title hopes alive this weekend as they head to top-four chasing Newcastle United.

Mikel Arteta has vowed to fight on in the title race despite Manchester City beginning to look capable of easing away from the Gunners in the final weeks of the campaign.

Arsenal cannot afford to slip up on Tyneside if they want to keep pace with City in the title race, but the hosts have lost just once at St. James' Park in Premier League action this season.

Eddie Howe's Magpies are on the brink of bringing Champions League football back to the club for the first time since 2003 with Arsenal's own top-four spot already assured.

Arteta's team bounced back from four Premier League games without a win to cruise to a 3-1 victory over Chelsea in midweek, but their title hopes depend on City dropping points.

Newcastle are closing in on a superb end to the campaign, and Howe's charges need a maximum of eight points from their final five games to secure a Champions League spot.

Newcastle United vs Arsenal lineups

Arsenal's defensive issues continue to be a problem for Arteta, with Gabriel Magalhaes facing a fitness battle and William Saliba still out.

Howe has stuck with a largely unchanged starting XI in 2023, and Callum Wilson could be the only change from the 3-1 win over Southampton after the England international scored twice against the Saints.

Below are the projected starting lineups for both teams ahead of their Premier League match at St. James' Park on May 7.

Newcastle United starting 11

(4-3-3): Pope (GK) — Trippier, Botman, Schar, Burn — Joelinton, Guimaraes, Willock — Murphy, Wilson, Gordon

  • Injured: Lascelles, Krafth, Longstaff, Fraser, Saint-Maximin
  • Suspended: None

Newcastle's defensive solidity has been a huge part of their success this season with Sven Botman and Fabian Schar starting 30 of their 33 Premier League games as a centre-back pairing.

Sean Longstaff could be available if he comes through his final training sessions unscathed this week, but Allan Saint-Maximin will likely miss out.

Arsenal starting 11

(4-3-3): Ramsdale (GK) — White, Kiwior, Holding, Zinchenko — Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka — Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

  • Injured: Tomiyasu, Elneny, Saliba
  • Suspended: None

Arteta will make a late call on Gabriel's fitness, but he looks to be struggling, and Rob Holding could come back in to start in a patched-up Arsenal defence.
