Real Madrid vs Osasuna prediction, betting tips & odds for Copa del Rey final

Real Madrid take aim for one of the two trophies left on the table for them this season as they take on Osasuna in the 2023 Copa del Rey final on Saturday.

Los Blancos have looked extremely vulnerable in La Liga action this season, but in knockout tournaments they have persevered. They sit third in the La Liga table, 14 points behind leaders Barcelona, but they remain alive in the Champions League semifinals as well as the domestic cup — the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid should be at near full strength for the Copa del Rey final, keeping in mind that a massive Champions League semifinal first leg against Manchester City looms only a few days later on Tuesday.

Osasuna, who sit 10th in the La Liga table, required extra time or penalties to progress through each of the last four rounds of Copa del Rey action. They squeaked by third-tier club Gimnastic 2-1 on an extra-time own-goal, then knocked out three La Liga sides (Real Betis, Sevilla, and Athletic Club) to reach the final, two on extra-time winners and one via a penalty shootout.

Real Madrid vs Osasuna prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Real Madrid (-300)
  • Score prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Osasuna

To put it plainly, without Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Vinicius Jr, Ferland Mendy, and Federico Valverde on Tuesday, Real Madrid looked poor. In a 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad, the midfield failed to grab hold of the game, and Madrid were well-beaten, failing to create quality chances and eventually getting exposed at the back.

These two teams played back in February, and Madrid weren't great in that game either, but did just enough to win on two late goals, plus a third ruled out for offside via VAR. Given how Madrid probably have one eye on the Champions League coming up midweek, a similar result here is likely.

Real Madrid vs Osasuna: best bet

    • Pick: Under 2.5 goals
    • Odds: +125 (BetMGM)

The over 2.5 total goals is absolutely juiced here, and it doesn't quite make sense. Obviously, the betting market will always lean towards the attacking talent on a loaded team like Real Madrid, but recent form tips little reason to have it skewed quite this much.

A return for Vinicius Jr. and Karim Benzema will give them more firepower, but Madrid have looked disjointed domestically all through 2023. In the Copa del Rey alone, Madrid needed extra-time to get by Atletico Madrid after a 1-1 draw, and fell to Barcelona 1-0 in the semifinal first leg before exploding for an emotional 4-0 win in the second leg.

Against Osasuna, a team that also leans defensive, and which kept Real Madrid under wraps for much of their February meeting, a goal or two is all it should take to win this one, especially if Luka Modric is once again held out for fitness reasons.

Real Madrid vs Osasuna prop bet

    • Pick: Time of first goal — 31st min or later
    • Odds: +120 (Caesars)

Real Madrid can score at any time, but of late, it's been tough for them through the opening stages of games. Here, for a struggling Madrid in a cup final against a defensive opponent, it will take time to break Osasuna down.

Since the start of February, when Real Madrid's domestic struggles truly began and they turned their eye fully on knockout competitions, Real Madrid have needed patience to break opponents down. They have just eight of their 31 goals across that span in the opening half-hour of games, but seem to turn it on after that point.

Osasuna, meanwhile, are one of the lowest-scoring teams in La Liga through 2023, so their numbers across the board are paltry, but their goals allowed are similarly limited. Osasuna have conceded just six league goals in the first half since the start of February, with just three of those coming in the first half-hour, before seeing the gates open for 11 opposition goals in the second half.
