Team USA reportedly receives first FIBA World Cup commitments

The United States Men's National Basketball Team is beginning its preparations for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The first step: filling out its roster.

After a seventh-place finish in the 2019 World Cup, Team USA is looking to bounce back and dethrone the defending champion Spanish National Team. According to reports from Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, and NBA Insider Marc Stein, Team USA will look toward the next generation of NBA stars to do so.

USA roster for 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup

Here are the players that have reportedly committed to represent the United States Men's National Team at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Among players on the list are 21-year-old Anthony Edwards and 23-year-old Tyrese Haliburton, two members of the 2020 NBA Draft class that became first-time All-Stars in 2023.

The team will begin its training camp on Aug. 3 in Las Vegas with an exhibition game against Puerto Rico scheduled for Aug. 7.

When is the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup?

  • Dates: Aug. 25-Sept. 10
  • Locations: Indonesia, Japan, the Phillippines

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup begins with the Group Phase on Aug. 25, 2023. The Final Phase, or elimination round, begins on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, with the championship game set for Sunday, Sept. 10 at 8:40 a.m. ET.

USA Group, schedule at 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup

The United States Men's National Team will participate in Group C and will play each game of the Group Phase at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. Group C consists of the United States, Jordan, and Greece.
