Damar Hamlin gives powerful speech at NFL Honors: 'The journey will continue'

The 2023 NFL Honors produced an emotional moment Thursday night when Bills safety Damar Hamlin appeared on stage with the medical staffs of the Bills and Bengals – along with medical staffers from University of Cincinnati Medical Center — to make his longest public remarks since suffering cardiac arrest in a Week 17 game against the Bengals on Jan. 2.

Hamlin was accompanied by the staff on the red carpet before the awards show as a gesture of appreciation.

When he joined them on stage during the program, there was clearly a lot of emotion running through Symphony Hall in Phoenix.

The NFL invited the University of Cincinnati medical team to walk the NFL Honors red carpet. They were responsible for Damar Hamlin’s care following his cardiac arrest.

Really cool gesture.

Hamlin, who attended the Bills' divisional round game against the Bengals but didn't address the media, spoke about his experience and the aftermath, along with what the support meant to him.

"The journey will continue." ❤️💙

Hamlin also discussed his recovery and what is helping him along in it. "I have a long journey ahead. A journey full of unknowns, and a journey full of milestones. But it's a lot easier to face your fears when you know your purpose."

Hamlin signed off with gratitude.

"A special thank you to everyone on this stage, for everything they did for me," he said. "And thank you everyone around the country, and everyone around the world, who prayed for me and hoped for me. The journey will continue."

Obviously it was an extremely busy weekend for Hamlin, who was shown a lot of love by the NFL as his recovery continues. The first responders have also gotten a lot of well-earned love, so they're representing well in Glendale.

What's your reaction?
