What to know about NFL international games in 2023

Get those passports ready, it's time for some American football overseas.

The NFL continues to put itself on a global stage, and did so by expanding its outreach even further in 2022 –– to Munich, which was a hit with fans both near and afar. That is no different in 2023, with five more international games on the slate, this time with two games in Germany and three in England.

Nine teams will get their chance to study abroad for a week (or more) and get away from the typical grind of an NFL season. Fans across the pond will get to see some new teams this upcoming season as well as some new faces in new places.

Falcons vs. Jaguars

  • Date: Oct. 1
  • Time: 9:30 a.m. ET
  • Location: Wembley Stadium, London

No team has played in Europe more than the Jaguars, and that trend continues in 2023 as Jacksonville will be in not one, but two games in London. The first will be at Wembley Stadium, when Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars host Desmond Ridder and the Falcons. He'll be tested against a revamped defense that included the signing of Jessie Bates.

Jaguars vs. Bills

  • Date: Oct. 8
  • Time: 9:30 a.m. ET
  • Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

European fans will see Josh Allen for the first time as he leads the Bills into an overseas contest against the Jaguars. On paper, this looks to be the best matchup as it features two of the game's young, dynamic quarterbacks and a pair of teams that are coming off division titles. Fans could see this as a potential playoff preview.

Ravens vs. Titans

  • Date: Oct. 15
  • Time: 9:30 a.m. ET
  • Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

London NFL fans will be seeing a number of the game's elite quarterbacks as the week after Allen and Lawrence come to Tottenham, Lamar Jackson will lead the Ravens against the Titans. Jackson has a new contract to make him a Raven for the next five years, while the Titans could be looking at a few options for their long-term signal-caller between the dual-threat Malik Willis and the strong-armed Will Levis.

Dolphins vs. Chiefs

  • Date: Nov. 5
  • Time: 9:30 a.m. ET
  • Location: Deutsche Bank Park, Frankfurt

Tyreek Hill will not have his Kansas City homecoming. The former Chiefs receiver was lined up to head to Kansas City for the first time since being traded to Miami. Instead, he will face his old team in Frankfurt. Patrick Mahomes will be making his first international trip as Germany will get to see the reigning Super Bowl champions in their first 2023 game. This has all the makings of a high-scoring clash.

Colts vs. Patriots

  • Date: Nov. 12
  • Time: 9:30 a.m. ET
  • Location: Deutsche Bank Park, Frankfurt

It wasn't that long ago that Colts-Patriots was the premier rivalry in the NFL. But that was back when Peyton Manning was facing Tom Brady. Now, the two teams face each other with newer franchise quarterbacks as Anthony Richardson will likely make the start against Mac Jones. Richardson is perhaps the most athletic quarterback in NFL history already, which should make for an exciting clash for the German NFL fans.
